So wall street got bailed out… did we ???  probably not ..Most of us small business guys and entrepreneurs will probably still feel the pain for some time to come. The robber barons took care of the robber barons. That is what a dog eat dog society does. So my Gorillas what does that mean for us ??

Absolutely nothing !!! you should not have been waiting in the first place … see no one cares  about you eating but you … the sooner we all figure  that out the better off we will be. Sure us Gorillas care about each other    but we are a rare breed  indeed…

So what is a Gorilla to do ??  well you need to dig deep into your thought process and find that no quit, no retreat, no surrender attitude that is required to navigate this crazy world …. When someone you know and respect   knocks your ideas you need to brush them aside and seek like minded individuals that will feed your soul….. not to give you false hope.. but just to give you HOPE .

The moral of this story is to not let anyone, the markets,robber barons , and even people you love  dictate who you are and more importantly who you can be ….It begs the question  Who tells you what to do and who is your Daddy ??

See.. now that banks are failing and credit is getting tight we have to make some tough decisions…

The market is correcting itself from the bottom up because clearly those at the top were unsupervised in the worst way!! I am a believer in the free market system and capitalism, but to whom much is given much is required. This is true all over the world. The Banking System is a house of cards anyway. The monies deposited into accounts is immediately used to invest worldwide in the financial markets with the hopes that a return will be made before you the depositor wants to withdraw more than 20% of it back out…wow!! 

In this case (when all those investments (mortgages etc..) went bad  all of the financial powers that be started to choke on bad paper  (debt) and we all started to withdraw funds  and so on and so on….

Now my Gorillas what are we going to do ?  well you should  immediately  rid yourself of all  of the debt that you can…if the  repo man cometh hand him the keys you can always get it back in the future, do not fear. Research the biggest banks there are a few that will remain solid through this mess, here’s a hint (look for the ones that are buying the others) move your money to them and park it for a while..if you are a kamikaze type invest 30-40-% of it  in the market and hold it  into the forseeable future. 

Blue chip stocks that have taken a hit will probably be a better bargain now and will go up eventually into the future….  save your profits from your business rainy days are ahead, you do not need that boat or that jet ski right now !! 

Do not lower your prices  hold steady if possible if you must go up do it out of neccessity to maintain your margins but  not to gouge customers. This too shall pass and they will remember..

Stop hitting the snooze button !!!! get up get out and get something !! All too often we are in a hurry up and wait mode… for what ?? Everything to be perfect?  I cannot start my blog until i have 500 email addresses, or i can’t have a business until i have a certain amount of money, or i can’t get a date without a cool car !! (that might be true) but you get my point.

 Successful Business owners and people in general  all have certain milestones they would like to reach before they embark upon alot of things BUT … the world does not always cooperate..you have to take risks.. so  grow some balls and   go get your dreams  they are out there …but move quickly because you never know what type of curveball life has in store for you . Do it now!!

Business challenges come  and Business challenges go, but what remains is you…. do you have what it takes to remain? do you have what it takes to sustain? These are questions small business owners face each and everyday. When we embark upon these ventures we never know what the future holds for us but we have to believe deep down inside to our core that we are doing the right thing. We usually have our family in tow and all of our life savings committed, so once we jump off that cliff  there is no return.

 We can always start over after a crash and burn but, it gets a little harder each time. You  must not be deterred and remain resolute…It can be done but the key element to making that happen is to look in the mirror and decide What is inside YOU ??

Hello Gorillas, have you ever been in one of those modes where you really need to make something happen? i mean you need a big deal or at least a moderate deal ? (yeah like everyday huh?) to come through. Sometimes that one client you have been working on forever and a day is just dragging their feet on saying yes. Do they not understand that they are going to mess up the weekend ? Don’t they know that you will not sleep well for the next 48 hours if you do not secure this deal before the weekend begins ? jerks…

If there was just one more day in the week i could close them, you say to yourself. Friday has come too soon and you do not know what to do about it. Well Gorillas should know that  you should  never have just one client on the hook at any given time if you can help it . Volume,volume,volume is the key to the riddle.  When you allow one client to dictate your happiness in business is just  like wearing only one pair of underwear the whole week. It is bound to make you uncomfortable at some point !!

Moral of the story: Always be seeking multiple clients

Answer for today: It is Friday, concede and take your butt home . Just be prepared to fight  again on Monday !!

REPO MAN COMETH

One of the most painful things in the world to go through is failure. Work marriage school business etc…as humans we all want and need to feel successful at something in life. When something you have worked hard to acquire is taken back we feel depressed and like a failure.

As consumers we become entrapped by debt. This is due to our bad decisions as well as unscrupulous lenders and greedy brokers bankers etc…once again the question is what do you do when they come for you??

The one thing we should all know is that everything on this planet is negotiable, everything.

We have a tendency to let fear consume us once we get behind on the debt. We then stop communicating with our lender; they in turn think we are hiding when we are actually trying to avoid talking with them until we have something…like money to give them. This is the number one mistake we make.

The first thing we should do is co-op our lender and make them a partner in our pain. Most of us know when we are going to be late on a payment and we sort of just let it happen. Each and everyday that passes on the debt we feel worse and then we begin to rationalize (they (lender) have more money than me) WE BECOME CHIMPANZEES… What we should do is call them and remember the Gorilla favorite on fear. Tell them you are experiencing difficulties and out of respect for them you wanted to communicate early and often about this debt

This is very painful but will probably extend the collection process by months. If they feel you are trying they will be very lenient.

 Nothing speeds up the process of collecting faster than the assumption that you are intentionally not paying or are just hiding from the debt. Unfortunately there are some out there who have bad intentions but most of us are not that way. so if you get extra time do everything you can to make your payments.

If you have done all you can and that fateful day comes when that critical piece of equipment or your vehicle has to be returned, take a deep breath and be a gorilla…let it go no need to fight  you have work to do. Some lenders will give you a few days to get it back. If you cannot do not worry you have 30 days before the repo appears on your credit report. Get another form of transportation

Research the prospect of renting equipment and may be you should invest in a scooter or moped for transportation. If you have a family maybe you can borrow a car and or rent a vehicle for that as well. Gorillas know that this too shall pass and you will not be in this situation for long just work your way through it and make a comeback. It will be that much sweeter when you make your comeback and Gorillas always make a comeback!!

Speculators, futures,shady oil companies,  off shore drilling , refineries, ethanol, biodiesel fuel, subprime lending, recession…and all that other crap that has you wondering  which way is up ? needs to  be kicked out of your mind. We Gorillas (struggling entrepreneurs) do not have the time to worry about such things . I know things are out of whack, but do not be discouraged be encouraged, find a need and fill it . That’s what we do right ? necessity is the mother of invention and i am going to figure out something to invent !! or at least tweak my current Marketing Business  (www.thejamarketinggroup.com)  in ways that can help it survive the punch in the gut that everyone is taking.

We are in a perfect storm. The world of business and the global economy is cleansing itself of all the bullshit that has gone on over the years …just like it did during the depression and more recently the dot com mess….there was too much unchecked crap going on like  million dollar deals cut on napkins..no brick and mortar locations of bank branches available  which prevented  us from delivering a well deserved  ass kicking  to someone who messed up our money or lost our money on some cockamamie deal.

Today we have no bid contracts, executives at our most well established financial institutions ( ex. Bear Stearns) robbing and pillaging more than usual(sub prime mtg)  ….It is straight anarchy but as i stated the market is righting itself …

In the meanwhile Gorillas stand up !!!!  get up and get your ass out of the bed and let’s go get this money each and everyday..remember you are in business as long as you say you are…..and by the way gas is too damn high Let’s all go get a moped (90 miles to the gallon).

Are u a recession monger ?? I mean just because gasoline is over 100.00 a barrel and we are paying more than 3.00 at the pump nationwide and we have had a downturn in the economy for two consecutive quarters does not mean we are in a recession !!!!!!!!!!! well maybe it does ….what do i know?? Hmmm let me think..doo doo doo doo doo doo doo

(theme song from jeopardy people ..Come on !!) OK what i mean is us Gorillas cannot afford to be in a recession, therefore we should not participate. Yes we are stuck in this strange economic place with everyone else, but we must sell harder and sell smarter and while i love making lots of money we need to take a look at our debt. A frend of mine whom i respect greatly is always saying the sure fire way to wealth is debt reduction. It is not what you make but what you keep, so do not fret we can ride this out together.

A recession is as much psychological as it is real…yes some clients are cutting back and it is harder to find new business ..so what !! it is what it is..stop sniveling sit down and strategize about your next move.. do not worry i will help..in the coming weeks and months i will be here for you to serve as a beacon of light on the horizon..i know sometimes when you are in a tunnel and you see a light at the end you are not sure if it is the way out or a train coming..but guess what, i am going to help you find the light that leads to the way out ..ready let’s go !!
